Postnatal Massage

There is almost no better time to receive a massage than after the birth of a baby. Postpartum mothers are awake around the clock and get very little sleep while adjusting to the hectic schedule of mothering a new baby. During this time, a woman’s body will again change its posture by releasing the muscles that once held up a pregnant body, to now lean over to hold and feed her newborn. Body aches and pains can continue from these changes for up to several months.

Massage can help speed the elimination of excess fluids and bring relief to the newly stressed muscles, helping the body to return to its pre-pregnancy state. Most moms return for massage sometime within the first month after birth. Others will come sooner choosing to bring their newborns with them. I welcome all postpartum mothers at any point who choose to bring their babies along to their massage. Waiting too long to get the assistance your body needs to make a full physical recovery can add to the challenge of adjusting to the lack of sleep and mothering your new baby. I encourage you take advantage of the relief from massage to help increase confidence and renewed energy to take care of yourself and your newborn.

What you can expect

At the beginning of each session, we will have a brief consultation. This is your opportunity to let me know if you’re feeling discomfort or pain in a particular area. Based on our consultation I can vary a session with different techniques or help you decide if it would be best to just to focus on specific areas of concern. Conservative draping is always used, exposing only the body part that is being worked on.
